Harry's Hand Harry's Hand

Harry's Hand in front of face was probably the most likely of all postures you'd see him in at any given time -- he was so painfully shy that I literally had to scoop him up and put him into the car to drive him home from Dick Clark's Bandstand--his one "performance" of the early years.

He prided himself on the fact that he'd gotten a five-million dollar contract out of RCA and yet wasn't even a performer--which satisfied his shyness and at the same time meant he didn't have a tour to deal with, and its resulting expenses.

I remember with pity one plaintive remark made by Roger Daltry at the end of one tour -- "I'm lucky to get out of it with one new suit and enough fare to get back home."
